New West Mayor Cote uses SFU urban studies degree to solve real-world problems


Jonathan Cote wasn’t even dreaming of becoming a mayor when he enrolled in SFU’s master of arts program in urban studies in 2011. He was looking for solutions to New Westminster’s rental housing and transit issues.

Nominations from people across the country will be posted online as they compete for the title of Great Street, Great Neighbourhood and Great Public Space for 2015. FCM Green Municipal Fund — $175m for South Downtown Lands enviro investigation

FCM PRESS RELEASE The Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, and Brad Woodside, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and Mayor of the City of Fredericton, New Brunswick, today announced a Green Municipal Fund™ (GMF) grant of $175,000 for the City of Nanaimo. The City used the funding to supplement a complex environmental investigation at 1 Port Drive, a City-owned 10.8-hectare brownfield site, also known as the South Downtown Waterfront property.
